NFC NEO (Zentron + Carbon) Swimbait Blank

When production rods are not enough, it's time to go custom. Come share your experiences building and/or ordering a custom rod and tell us if you'll ever go back to off the shelf.

NFC NEO (Zentron + Carbon) Swimbait Blank

Post by Cal » Wed Feb 24, 2021 1:34 pm

Hey Guys,

Another member reached out to me via Instagram with an alert that North Fork is having a flash sale on a new blank.. it's their MB 808-1 (X-Ray NEO XH) rated from 3/4-6 oz featuring a Zentron Fiber... this is a nylon material engineered with the same tensile strength as carbon but with up to 50% greater impact toughness.

This is a composite blank, so it's not 100% Zentron. They're mixing it with the carbon. Many of you are probably already aware of it since this is not the first blank offered with this composition. Anyway, the blank is offered at $85 with the sale as compared to the suggested list price of $250.

I ordered one to try out. 🤷‍♂️

I saw that rod blank. Looks like it would work for Deps 175 or Negotiator glides. Hope you build it and let us know how it turns out and what it's good for.

I just built 9 rods this winter with most 7' 6 and over, so I will pass on this one for now.

Seriously... think I’m gonna strip parts off some unused rods for this build 😂

Bump.

So, when do we get an update on Cal’s builds? Do these get in the rotation with normal rod reviews?

I sent this blank back as it was incredibly heavy. Mine weighed in at 5.5oz. Sweet blank but I was trying to build something light.

Apologies.. just noticed your question... been thinking about an angle to work in some of my recent builds into an article or three... we'll see.

We expect the cosmetics and thread wrap be objectively scored.
