any experience with liberty dropshot blanks?
any thoughts? i'm wanting to put together a casting rod for 1/8oz jigheads with a 2" baby shad.
i am also wondering if a spiral wrap would perform better?
thanks

On that question of spiral wrapping... there are previous discussions for sure, but this one is relatively recent with opinions surrounding lighter powered rods: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=86278

Yes on the spiral wrap - refer to the thread Cal linked. How much are you wanting to spend on the blank? I have a lot of experience with many blanks for this weight range and presentations. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the Liberty blank.

Re: any experience with liberty dropshot blanks?
i had thought originally about trying the point blank 701lxf, but then i realized that i don't need that quality of a blank for what i'm gonna use the rod for. i'm not even using fluorocarbon, just 4#-6# hi-vis mono.
i've been using a bps carbonlite ml, and it works, but it can be a bit sloppy feeling. i haven't had problems feeling bites with it though.
that $60-$70 range i think would work.

Love the liberty blank, for me the action of just right for BFS applications. I also built on the point blank 701l and I’d one of my favorite blanks to fish.
Re: any experience with liberty dropshot blanks?
I have the 7-6 liberty drop shot blank. It wasn’t quite what I was hoping for for a finesse blank (shooting for the perfect Ned rig rod for 1/32nd or so jig heads). It does not seem as fast as I was expecting. I am intrigued on building it out to a BFS. I could see it working well for that. What kind of lures are you using it with?
Re: any experience with liberty dropshot blanks?
For me, I like the action and mainly use it for ball jig heads. It’s got a unique action, soft tip and a little slower like you mentioned, but once you set the hook the tip shuts off and the power kicks in. To compare I built the exact build on an Eternity ML and the liberty definitely has more power, but lacks the sensitivity to the Eternity.

I thank Iam going to do a BFS rod with my liberty as well. There is a lot of power on the lower half of the rod. Might be a good light crankbait rod too.Ryan808 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:11 pmFor me, I like the action and mainly use it for ball jig heads.
