Temporary coloring for baits

Post by Johnny A » Sat Dec 14, 2019 4:35 pm

I’m thinking about quick red coloring for gills. Any ideas for marking pens?
Thanks

Sharpie makes a good red marker. I've used it to draw gills on flukes before.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Haven't tried the red on hard lures, but pretty sure it would work. I have used a black sharpie on hard lures like spinnerbaits to add an eye-dot to the head.

Thanks, will check it out.
I’ve found on the one lake I fish, a red gill spot made the difference between catching and not catching.

I use red sharpies to mark my gills, and then clear them with Rustoleum X2 Gloss clear. I hang them nose up, and the sharpie runs down, adding a bleeding gills effect. If I heat set the sharpie, it runs less. Play around with a test piece to get the amount of bleeding you want.

Red Sharpie should work and so should the Spike It pens.

Nail polish is a more permanent solution as it's enamel, plus the color selection is infinite. Having a wife and two daughters in the house ensured a never ending supply, otherwise the dollar store is a good source.
