Lowrance Elite CHIRP questions.

Post by mike304 » Thu Oct 16, 2014 8:51 pm

hey Guys,
I recently bought my first boat, an old Nitro 180TF, and am looking to upgrade the electronics for next season. I have the opportunity to buy a new Lowrance unit for a hefty discount through a buddy of mine and am leaning towards the Elite 7 CHIRP gold unit. Does anyone out there have any experience with this technology? I've done a little research but am looking for real world stuff. I know its kind of new.
I'm tied to Lowrance due to the discount, so I'm not looking at any other brands.

I'm no expert, but I also have a CHIRP unit.

Lowrance CHIRP is for deep sonar down to 3,000 feet and requires a special transducer to use it. Here in Florida I fish in water less than 30 feet deep always. So I have no need of the CHIRP ability of my head unit and just use regular side scan and down scan due to how shallow I fish.

CHIRP also drains batteries faster because of the increased power needed to drive it to those depths.

Hummingbird CHIRP goes down to 5,000 feet.

My regular dual transducer is good down to about 300 feet as I recall, so this is all I am using from my unit.

DownScan Imaging: 300 ft / 91 m* using 455/800kHz

CHIRP Sonar High Range /200 kHz: 1,000 ft / 305 m*

CHIRP Sonar Med Range /83 kHz: 1000 ft / 305 m*

CHIRP Sonar Low Range /50 kHz: 3,000 ft / 914 m
Why is there a concerted effort of hate? And why is it allowed?
