Shimano Chronarch D vs. Abu Garcia REVO Premier

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Shimano Chronarch D vs. Abu Garcia REVO Premier

Post by ecu daniel 14 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 6:56 am

Hey guys,

I am in the market for a new "all around" combo.

I am looking at either a Shimano Chronarch D paired with a Shimano Cumara or an Abu Garcia REVO Premier on a Veritas.

Just wondering which you prefer.

As far as reels go, I prefer the Chronarch D7 over the Revo Premier.

Chronarch D is the nicest reel I own out of 34. It's not the most expensive either. Go for the D, you'll love it

Same here, given their prices I would spend the extra $20-$40 on the D7. Just flushed my bearings on my Revo Premier and lubed them with Rocket Fuel Tournament Formula though smooth still can't mach my D7 in casting. Maybe not fair comparison as all my D7's has some new abec7 SS but DR points out that the Premier already comes with abec7's.

I guess I am in the minority here, I prefer the premier. The chronarch is a great reel, but for me, I'll take the premier!

I have both the abu sx and shimano curado 50...i honestly cant say i like one better then the other thats why this decision is so hard haha...

I am probably going to buy a veritas rod...the chronarch would look sick on it being an all white combo...

Just sold my Chronarch D, but not due to any lack of performance. The reel casts great and can handle shaky heads to big jigs. Pitching performance is excellent and the retrieve is SILKY smooth.

I like to wrap my index finger in front of my reels when fishing. With the Chronarch D, I can't completely get my fingers around the front face of the reel as opposed to say a Zillion or a Curado E.

If you have big hands, it's really a non-issue.

I have to agree with the fact that the D7 is a better caster than the Premier.

I actually just had the same problem. I was at my local BPS for the sale. I understood the Shimano line was not a part of the Reel Trade In sale and the Revo Premier was. I talked to the Abu Garcia rep that was there and he didn't really care to talk to me and his biggest selling point was he would throw in a hoodie with my purchase. I thought to myself, "How is the hoodie going to cast the lure or retrieve it." I walked over to the Chronarch and a nice BPS employee stopped and helped me. Keep in mind I have done my research on both reels before hand. They ended up signing me up for a credit card (even though I already had one to BPS) and I got 10% off the reel with took $30 off the price. In the end I paid $269.99 for the Chronarch, even though the Revo Premiew was $229.99 with the trade in and Abu Garcia has an additional $25 mail in rebate.

After using the Chronarch for a few days, I am sold on it. I believe I made the right choice. I hope it will feel as good as my Chronarch 100SF does after several years of hard fishing. Go with the Chronarch.

It's Premier for me for one simple reason - I don't like the profile of the D7. I sold my D7 and picked up a Premier. The Premier fits my hand much better. I now have two of them. Great all around reels.

I prefer the Revo over the Chronarch D, due to it's lack of back play. However, I hate the foam knobs.

x2.....I feel that the Premier is lighter which adds a benifit when fishing all day.

Put a Daiwa Zillion handle on it. You will not be sorry you did.
