Abu Verdict

Post by vtbasser » Sun Feb 27, 2011 3:21 pm

Thoughts on the Verdict series as a whole? I am considering the 7-6 heavy power/fast action for frogs/jigs/pitching/flipping/c-rig.

What about the screw handle thing? Does it stay put? Is it long enough on the 7-6?

Thanks,

Jody

I think the adjustable handle is a good concept, however IMO if you get a verdict longer then 6'-6" the handle is useless and awkward (you will probably want the handle fully extended at all times.) If you are looking to get a 7'6" id just save the extra 30 bucks and get a veritas....

also, the butt end of the verdict is a different shape then the veritas and tends to get scraped up more easily. When that happens it will get very sharp and irritate your for-arm.

The Veritas doesn't come in a 7-6 heavy, only a 7-6 medium heavy. So it'll probably be the Verdict for me.

I'm thinking of something else too but I can't remember it right now. Oh well...

The Veritas will be MORE than enough power for what you are looking to do. It will fish more like a heavy.

That is very interesting to hear. Have you personally frogged with it?

From what I've heard, the Abu Vertias and Verdicts are a shade stiffer than their rating. So a MH is closer to a H than a M. A Heavy is closer to an XH than a MH.

As a result, I am getting the 7'6" MH-Fast Verdict for pitchin' jigs. I want the extra slight bit of give as I use 70# braid, and also, I don't want an absolute broomstick.

I can't confirm this is true for Verdicts but I would say it's spot on for the Veritas, Vendetta and Vengeance. I have a 7' MH Veritas that feels just as, if not more, powerful than my Dobyns SS734 (a H rod).

So then the Veritas 7-6 MH might frog well?

Yes I have frogged with it. It worked very well. I prefer a 7'3 though.

In my opinion the 7'3 mh verdict would work for frogs it is a touch lighter in power then my dobyns 735. My opinions on the verdict are as follows. 1. It has good balance not great. 2. Its sensitive id say above average for the $. 3. I have had no issues with the screw down i have used a curado and a revo preimer on it no problems ever.
4. The adjustable handle is a great idea, but in practice it doesnt tighten as much as i would want always seems a little loose, it does stay put fishing but it bugs me. Overall its a nice rod you can get them from poorfish.com for 80-90$ at that price its a good deal. If i were to buy again i would choose a dobyns savvy or powell and pay the extra cash.
