Can we talk Alpha for a second
Re: Can we talk Alpha for a second
My most recent Alphas. An Alphas SV 105 with red parts replaced with silver parts. Added Megabass Zonda spool. It is such a nice looking and casting reel. I picked it up from a member here. Its nicer than any of my old Steez. A true gem.

That looks familiar....
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Re: Can we talk Alpha for a second
Im late to the alphas party. Started with ct, but sv105 is on its way and probably wont stop there. Is stock sv105 spool good for heavy duty pitching/flipping or is there a better option (50lb braid)?
Re: Can we talk Alpha for a second
How does the chrome on the nose piece holds? I was thinking of getting one for my td ito.
Re: Can we talk Alpha for a second
Fine on my Alphas SVs. Fine also on my IP68. Not fine on my TD-Z Type R but it is old as hell and I bought it that way. I think you would be more than alright to buy one from TTT. Hold on to that stock one for resale.

How do you like the Zonda spool in the sv105? I bought one to try but never got around to it.
Re: Can we talk Alpha for a second
It's a weird one. It seems to cast about as far with a smooth cast than a hard one. No other spool I have is quite like that. I like it as a squarebill spool. Smooth, consistent and easy caster but not a long bomber by any means. The lightest I have thrown was Flat Dawgs on a 1/16 oz flick shake head. It handed it very well. It pairs well to versatile M powered rod for use with 5 inch weightless plastics and cranks up to 3/8 oz. That is what I have done with mine and it has been great. Sounds like I need to dust it off and spool it up. Compared to the stock SV spool which do you like better for those weights?LowRange wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 2:31 pmIt's a weird one. Re: Can we talk Alpha for a second
I use SV spools to skip, pitch and target cast. I use Magforce Z and V to cast. I haven't found an SV spool yet that impressed me with how it casts on open water. For the longer casts with a squarebill the Zonda spool casts further with less effort than the SV spool. Both are similar in that neither are long bombers but the Zonda is faster and more free than the SV.
The SV can be cast hard to force more distance out of it and the Zonda spool fluffs up mid cast if you try to force a bunch of distance out of but still slows strongly at the end of the cast like the SV. It likes smooth low energy casts. The SV does too and is more versatile but the Zonda spool is just a better caster when working the bank with a little bit of distance between you and the bank. The SV is better as skipping and is more controlled when pitched. The Zonda is pretty fast when pitching. If you like that then that is a plus. I like SV spools for pitching myself.
