Always think it’s pretty crazy how a big fish can eat a lure and barely feel the bite. Was working a Mirrodine XL slowly along bottom and felt that super light tick....

Absolutely fantastic. Great catch.

I have not posted any smallmouth pics in a while but I have been catching a few. This one is a 3-12 caught with one of my 3/16 ounce Jigs with a Zoom Super Chunk Jr trailer. Rod is a Tatula Elite 6-9 Skipping and Reel is a Tatula Elite with a DIY Spool, 24 lb Gliss and 8 lb leader.

Another 3lb smallie this time with a 2020 SV and a 7-1 compile X Steez. SV reel is basically stock but I have a spool coming for it now. This fish hit a prototype tube/craw bait that I am working on for super heavy wood and rock cover. Basically I take a 2.75 Yum Paca craw and screw in a 1/8 ounce weight, insert that into a 3 inch tube, then texas rig the whole mess with a wide gap hook. It comes through cover very nicely.

These two 4 pounders were caught from the same spot within 3 or 4 minutes of one another. Both hit a 3/16 once jig and trailer. Rod is a 6-7 Steez and the reel is a Tatula 100 with a DIY Spool. First fish was 4-1 and second was 4-0.

Pond fish?
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Pond fish?
Yes. An older irrigation pond about 8 acres in size fed by a creek. Deepest part about 16-18 feet depending on the rain...

I’ve taken several over 8lbs out of there and three over 10...

These dock battles are crazy. Sitting in front of one dock and paralleling the next one with a Shallow Pointer, this fish dropped the hammer on a long pause about 5’ off the corner piling. Shook me through my shoulders  Luckily she ran out for the first few seconds, just long enough for me to get away from the docks and get ready for that first run back! Thumb down on the spool and no idea how I stopped and turned her. Great fight and gets the heart racing with all the structure around. Custom 842 Conquest w/Stile SS just keeps putting in the work day in day out.

Seems like I run into at least one big cat swimbaiting at night this time of year. This will be the one for 2020. The take on a swimbait by a cat this size in the pitch black beats that of a bass in my book hands down.
