VMC Hook Eye Epoxy?

Post by toddmc » Mon Nov 30, 2020 9:44 am

Does anyone have a good idea as to what VMC uses for their hook eye epoxy? I'd like to get my hands on some.

I keeps the line from getting caught in the gap at the hook eye. Your line will often break when your knot rolls to the bottom of the hook eye and rubs against the end of the wire in the hook eye loop.

I’ve always used some of the 5 minute Loctite epoxy. Holds great and no more broken knots.

This works fine, Jeff. I've also used gel super glue, then sprinkle a little baking soda. It will harden as smooth and as hard as glass almost instantly. It can even be filed and ground down after hardening. A buddy uses this combination to repair chips and cracks in the carbon fiber blades of his drones. I've also used it to repair a cracked carbon fiber handle.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I use a Loon product gel that you cure with a UV light. It's not sticky, it's pretty hard but remains a bit flexible. I use the fluid kind not the tick kind. I also use it for the gap in spinnerbait wire. I don't loose so many blades.

That’s a great mix, sounds like it can be used for all kinds of stuff. I use it to repair old lures before paint and cracked/chipped lips on hardbaits.

This sounds good, I'm looking for a smoother finish. My super glue and 5 minute epoxy runs aren't usually too smooth. I wonder if VMC spins the hook on a machine, like a rod that has just been built.

call me stupid

but I just use the VMC hooks. that they won't let my braid loose is why. started about 3-4 years ago. I use the heavy duty for about everything plastic

I think I have landed 3 of 4 double digit bass on these babies so can't find a reason to go another direction

got it,

been a while since I've been in that postion but I recall finding a knot that was bigger and helped prevent my braid from slipping out. Never had this issue with the Gammy's I don't think until I became straight braid guy

I just don’t like VMC hooks. Just not sharp enough for my liking. Owner and Gamakatsu for me, love their variety, and I can get VMC very cheap. Adding a little epoxy to the hook eyes takes about 1 minute to do a whole pack of hooks, so it’s worth it. Never broke braid on hooksets, but noticed fluoro breaking easily and haven’t had issues since adding the epoxy.
