Introduction: There are few bass fishing trends in recent years that have exploded quite like the “urchin” bait. What was once a niche Japanese presentation, essentially a small central body surrounded by an intimidating forest of appendages, quickly became one of the hottest finesse techniques in bass fishing. Much of that attention can be traced back to Hideup’s Coike family, and particularly the Coike 17mm, which helped demonstrate just how effective these strange-looking baits could be when suspended, twitched, dropped, or simply allowed to hover in front of fish that likely hadn’t seen this style of bait before. The Black Sheep Bakurai puts its own spin on the increasingly popular urchin-style bait, adding pronounced ridges along each tentacle and club-shaped tips designed to amplify movement and displace more water. We take a closer look at this distinctive first offering from the fast-growing Black Sheep brand.
