Why would Zander mention the Gearbox at all in his review?
The point is not his mentioning it. Or anyone else mentioning it. Heck, I even mentioned it in my review of my G3 STX. The problem comes in when folks who have never owned one say it's an "issue".
Maybe Zander can weigh in here and tell us otherwise, but nowhere in his very good review did I see where he had an actual issue with the gearbox.
Sorry but you haven't answered the question rather just circumventing it. The point "IS" why did Zander mention it. There is a reason and I already answered it for you in my previous post. But rightly so as I am a "fool" because I need to own one to know how it feels in my hand when all I had to do was go into BPS and Cabelas, put said reel in my hand on a rod then tested it and knew/predetermined right away that I do not like how the Gearbox intrudes on my palming and comfort.
But for analogoy sakes, lets say I go into a store, finding out that shoes "A" does not fit comfortably and therefore I did not buy it. Instead, using your logic here, I should have bought the shoe regardless how tight or loose or uncomfortable it is because I have to "own" one first to be able to completely assess how it feels ergonomically and esthetically? Sorry my friend, that logic to me is flawed. Regardless if Shoes "A" enables me to run 40MPH or jump 20ft high or basically the performance, if Shoes "A" is not comfortable or fit correctly, why buy it?
Another analogy, lets say the Calcutta 700TE is designed to throw 1/16th oz lures and is a finesse casting reel. And you want to buy a finess reel. if you picked up one of these Calcutta 700TE at BPS or Cabelas, are you not going to notice the weight and clunky size of the reel right away regardless of how it performs? But wait, using your logic, I shoiuld buy and own the reel first before making that assessment. I can't imagine anyones face when they try to pair this finesse Calcutta 700TE on a ML casting rod.
Again, not once have I denounced or even mentioned anything negative on how the reel performs. Rather the ergonomics and esthetics is something that is worth mentioning and valid point. But taking it one step further of owning one before anyone makes that assesment is ludicrious at best. And again, if Zander did not feel the Gearbox would be an issue at all, he would have never mentioned it - end of story.
I mean no disrespect jeb. You are a great contributor and your opinions are always highly renowned by me. I will not further this debate as it will just keep on going. Rather I am leaving it at this.
Thanks - Buck.
