Daiwa Embraces IoT With New Bluetooth Equipped IM Z LIMITBREAKER Baitcaster
Introduction: Daiwa Japan has launched a new generation of the Z series reels with the IM Z LIMITBREAKER. More than just an update in styling and refinement the IM Z is a Smart Reel that makes use of Daiwa's new bluetooth and app controlled "Connecting System" to control, track, and update the new Intelligent Magforce braking system.
This was an EXCELLENT review of this new reel. I watched the lure news piece in Japanese but obviously don’t speak/read Japanese. The gist came through. I still think this model is aimed at the saltwater anglers with an eventual trickledown for bass anglers.
Might have missed it, but I am wondering if the reel can function when the battery is dead. Is there any braking at all? Would be nice if they make a non-electronic version that could spool swap with this one. Again, I have no idea what is coming or what is even possible so just thoughts.
I just hope they don't reserve this frame for only the ultra-expensive class, much like they did with the Steez CT SV. I would love to see a cheaper version of that reel still, even if in the $350 range. Same goes with this new Z. I understand how things go though and know that is all HIGHLY unlikely...
Looking at the translation, I think that's what it means about 'unavailable outside Japan'. Not literally unavailable, but that it's only in Japanese language and script.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
All battery life diminish over time so now I have to think about that, pull out my phone to change brake settings and remember to charge my reel if it's low on life fml...
I've always thought the idea of a custom braking profile for a DC reel would be cool. I always envisioned it as a system that generates its own power and to set parameters and braking curves you would connect it to a PC and power the reel via a mini USB. You would run a program to visualize and change the braking curves and then download the profiles to the reel with a dial or selector to choose which profile. Not sure this app allows this. I also wanted to see the return of the Z. Not thrilled about both happening in the same reel though. I do hope it sticks around and develops over time because it is kinda cool.
It would be cool to develop and share the perfect 4 oz glide bait braking profile for big non braid line with the reel or the perfect deep crank casting profile with 10# flouro with light wind. I guess the app based nature of it could allow for sharing of braking profiles assuming it's Bluetooth based. You could have a bunch on your phone ready to go. Average Joe can't even figure out Magforce 3D so doubt this would have mass market appeal but it is a flagship reel. I could also share backlash.exe as a grifter to all the noobs.
Backlash.exe But customization of braking curves would be really interesting and great fun. Really hoping that will be possible. Actually I believe it will be possible. Maybe not with original reel but with modified reel.
